About Philip
Philip Hickey received his Masters of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. He utilizes integrative treatment approaches to assist clients in addressing issues of depression, anxiety, self-esteem and relationship difficulties. Philip has extensive experience in exploring the impact of trauma on the lives of both children and adults, specifically the debilitating effects of shame in individuals' lives. His therapeutic approach focuses on the goals of self-compassion, identity and healing. Philip is also trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) psychotherapy.
For more than a decade, Philip has worked at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center (ADTC) in Avenel, NJ. At the ADTC, Philip utilizes psychoanalytic, trauma-focused and cognitive-behavioral treatment approaches in intensive, weekly psychotherapy for incarcerated men who have sexually offended. Philip believes that trauma is a motivating factor in sexual offending and that exploration of childhood wounds is integral on the path to healing.
Philip also created Princeton University's MAVRIC Project, an alliance of Princeton University undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and alumni committed to preventing the occurrence of interpersonal violence and abuse within the university community. The MAVRIC Project works to confront and dismantle the destructive impact of male socialization (or 'Man Box' culture).
Philip is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New Jersey. His license number is 44sc05526800.
